Don't be a Goose

“Don’t Be a Goose” is an awareness campaign developed by the Albury Liquor Accord to help create a safer community for everyone by promoting positive patron behaviour in licensed venues.

With bold typography, bright colours and a playful goose mascot, the campaign messaging aims to cut through the noise and speak directly to patrons to minimise anti-social behaviour.

The tone is clear: keep it fun, keep it chill, and don’t be the person who ruins it for everyone.

Why the Campaign Exists

The “Don’t be a Goose” campaign aligns three key safety initiatives under one unified message:

1. Bar from One, Bar from All 2. Ask for Angela 3. Drink Spiking Test Kit.

The campaign reframes responsible behaviour in language that resonates with everyday patrons. Messages across the three key initiatives promotes a shared responsibility and strengthens community safety.

The campaign overarching objectives are:

  • Improve patrons and venue staff safety
  • Create a shared responsibility
  • Promote positive behaviour
  • Helps reduce alcohol and drug related harm

The Big Picture

“Don’t Be a Goose” isn’t about being heavy-handed. It’s about being unified.

One message. One standard. One safer community.

If everyone plays their part, the only thing getting kicked out is the goose behaviour.
And honestly, that’s the one thing nobody invited anyway.

Bar from One, Bar from All

If a patron is barred from one participating licensed venue, they are automatically barred from all Albury Liquor Accord venues.

Why it exists:

To create consistency, remove venue-hopping as a loophole, and send a clear message that antisocial behaviour has real consequences. As the campaign states:

“Because causing drama means getting barred – from every bar, pub, club and licensed venue.”

Impact:

  • Strengthen community safety
  • Protects patrons and venue staff
  • Reinforces collective responsibility
  • Reduces repeat incidents

Ask for Angela

Ask for Angela is a patron safety campaign aimed at addressing sexual violence.

Originating in the English County of Lincolnshire in 2016, the campaign encouraged patrons to approach bar staff and ‘ask for Angela’ if they needed help to leave an unsafe situation. The campaign has since been adopted by licensed venues across the United Kingdom, United States and Australia.

Why it exists:

Patrons who feel unsafe, threatened or uncomfortable can discreetly ask venue staff for “Angela” to seek help.

Impact:

  • Creates a culture of care inside licensed venues
  • Empower patrons to seek assistance
  • Encourages early intervention
  • Support staff in managing situations discretely

Drink Spiking Test Kit

If something doesn’t look right, feel right or taste right, patrons can ask venue staff for a drink spiking test kit. No judgement.

Why it exists:

To remove stigma and ensure patrons feel supported in raising concerns. Campaign language reinforces:

“You deserve to enjoy the night without worry.”

Impact:

  • Strengthen community safety
  • Promotes patrons and licensed venue vigilance
  • Encourages reporting
  • Help to reduce alcohol and drug-related harm
